Sway - The Delivery (Mixtape)

Sway is a divisive artist - you either rate him a lot or don't at all. If you're a fan of his This Is My Promo mixtapes then you need to download The Delivery. You can expect music aimed at the poppier end of the spectrum; you can also expect Sway running rings around rappers over beats that don't have a commercial bias and delivering his unique stamp on music.

Here are a couple joints that should convince you to grab the whole thing:

Sway - I Declare War

Sway - The Final Delivery

Sway - The Watcher

I admit, I was slipping a little by not checking for SB.TV. It's not as hip hop-oriented as DJ Gone's channel, with more of a focus on grime MCs - which is not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're after.

A lot of rappers really bring it for these videos. Here are a couple I scoped last night that are doing it.

If I was an MC chatting a lot of hot air and vanity, I would be afraid of this dude. Black The Ripper is creating a strong buzz around himself and it's not based off of nothing.

If the word "swagger" hadn't become as big a hip hop cliche as "bling" I might use it to describe Wretch. Too many people try and play cool and do so by emulating others; this guy does it on his own terms.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Chipmunk was created by a record label despot with sterling signs in his eyes. Here Chips reminds you that he got the attention from the majors for a reason and is still capable of showing you why his peers championed him in the first place.

Check the SB.TV channel
for yourselves.

BUG - Cosmic Lab b/w 20 Winks

Poor and over-simplified descriptions of music irk me, so I'll just say that BUG makes spacey, downtempo synth-led beats and that Ty is a huge fan.

You should really check this guy's production. He's released two tracks for you completely free and I imagine you'll see him making moves with vocal artists, as there's got to be loads of suitable collaborations on the table.

DJ Ames & DJ Drama - International Hustle UK Edition Vol 2 (Mixtape)

DJ Ames is no slouch when it comes to his mixtape game - he's got a link with DJ Drama, the man behind Lil Wayne's most notable independent projects and who got raided by the bleedin' Recording Industry Association of America. Exactly.

It's good to see him put his weight behind this selection of UK artists and I'm looking forward to checking the I Wanna Rock posse cut.

Police Cancel Giggs Tour

From the Guardian:

"British rapper Giggs has had his UK tour pulled after police warned promoters over safety fears.

Giggs, from Peckham, London, and recently signed to XL Recordings, was due to play 10 dates starting tomorrow in Birmingham. However, police confirmed that they warned organisers about security concerns after being contacted by the promoters for Giggs' London date on 4 March at the O2 Islington Academy.

An official statement read: 'Police advised that there were concerns about potential risks to the event, if it took place. It is routine for police to work with licensed venues on a regular basis to identify and manage risk assessments for forthcoming performances, but the decision to cancel an event is a matter for the venue itself.'

This isn't the first time Giggs has run into trouble with the law. In 2003, he spent two years in prison for possessing firearms without licence. Ever since, the rapper has complained that Operation Trident has followed his movements, informing venues and record labels of his past in an attempt to shut down his musical career.

Giggs recently told the Observer's Paul Morley that Trident contacted XL on the day before he was signed to scare them off. He claimed people from his label were 'shaken up' after getting the call and were unsure whether to offer him a record deal.

Giggs believes that police phoned venues before the start of the tour, exaggerating security risks.

He told BBC 1Xtra: 'This is how it's been from the beginning, it's just that everyone is hearing about it now. Before it used to be low key, people didn't really believe me.'

Considering his backstory, though, this kind of publicity may not be too harmful.

As the rapper himself said: 'I just want to thank police for all this great promotion that they're giving me, all these cancellations, which are making me more powerful.'"

1Xtra & DJ Excalibah Present - We Got Next

After delving back into a very limited CD collection for some British biznizz that can legitimately be given away to you freeloaders, this little gem cropped up.

We Got Next was put together in 2004, back when Excalibah was still 1Xtra’s poster boy for UK hip hop. HHC asked him for a mix of the latest and best, and he delivered just that.

1 - DJ Excalibah - Intro
2 - Micall Parknsun - Tha Shit
3 - Beats In Progress - Space Cadets Featuring DPF, Kashmere
4 - Styly Cee - Want Whats Yours Featuring Scor-Zay-Zee
5 - JTWR - Get Over It
6 - The Last Skeptik - Prior To The Present Featuring Sway Dasafo
7 - Verb T - Ravenous Featuring - Red
8 - Cappo & Konny Kon - Capkon Entertainment
9 - Yungun & Lewis Parker - The Big Idea
10 - Klashnekoff - Black Rose
11 - Lowkey - Happy Ending
12 - Dirty Diggers - For The Haters
13 - Foreign Beggars - Frosted Perspeks

Don't Stay In...

The good people at Doctor's Orders are keeping themselves very busy. The above is on the 19th March and the below, with Atlantic Records hostage Saigon, is on the 4th. And don't forget, they're hosting a night this Friday at Plan B with K-Lash headlining.

Wiley feat. Emeli Sande - Never Be Your Woman (prod. Shy FX)

This video is wicked and it's good to hear Wiley constructing proper verses on what I'm assuming will be a commercial release. Shy FX delivers an old-skool-dance vibe that works lovely and fits the bill.

Lands 28th of this month.

TY - Emotions

The lead single off TY's Special Kind Of Fool.

“Emotions featuring Sarina Leah and Shaun Escoffery (release date 16th March 2010) is the debut single from UK hip hop legend Ty's forthcoming album "Special Kind of Fool" on BBE. An uplifting bubbler featuring Ty’s trademark candor and inimitable flow, it’s an infectious dance floor music track, with depth."

Tulisia Of N-Dubz In Wardrobe Blunder

From The Sun:

"TULISA from N-DUBZ took a gamble wearing this outfit last night.

She clearly hadn't bargained on the presence of snappers and their flashbulbs.

The result? An embarrassing reveal of her underwear through her leggings.

Her bandmate FAZER was also unaware of the fashion faux pas when the duo left Bungalow 8.

Otherwise he'd have walked behind her..."

But we already knew N-Dubz are complete arse - badumtsch!

Sway - Hard (Freestyle)

Artists like Sway find themselves in a tough position: if you've got commercial potential there's always the temptation to water down your product to maximise your audience. If you do so, you end up being tarred with the sell-out brush.

That's where mixtapes offer a lifeline and allow rappers the freedom to do what they want on their own terms.

Bonafide Magazine - Issue 03 Out Now

Bonafide Magazine's latest issue is now available:

"Raekwon the Chef is one of modern music’s most gifted raconteurs (yes music, not just rap). After releasing a few so-so albums following his mighty cannon of a debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… back in 95, late last year saw the release of the long awaited sequel. And OB4CL2 may just be better than the original, find out more here.

If looks could kill…then Village Green would be facing up to a hefty sentence down the nick, but they don’t, of course. The design team behind Fabric’s distinct art direction and countless album covers reveal some of the tricks to their trade and inspirations, which include traditional arts & crafts and The Kinks, surprisingly.

Task Force have raised the bar for UK hip-hop. Consistently intense and razor sharp lyrics, brilliant collaborations and a defiance and honesty to say it like it is. Issue 03 gave us an opportunity to catch up with Farma G to reflect on the group's achievements, the state-of-the-nation, hobbies and his new non-hip-hop musical direction."

The Maccabees feat. Roots Manuva - Empty Vessels

Is this a forward thinking and open-minded collaboration or a rubbish fit?

The most recent quote on YouTube says "who on earth agreed to this. As a fan of hip hop and the Maccabees, this is fuckin horrible".

Mind you, someone else says "that little black kid is pretty bad ass", so maybe not so insightful.

Diggin In The Crates: HHC Cover CD - Various UK Artists

This one isn't so much diggin in the dusty crates, more flicking through a pretty dry CD wallet. I unearthed this free collection which came with a copy of HHC circa 2000 and mostly features UK artists.

Firstly, the track names are unknown (to me at least) and I can't pin down a couple of the artists by ear. I do know the rest features Out Da Ville, Scorzayzee, The Planets, Moorish Delta 7, 57th Dynasty, and Lethal and Destruction. It's been chopped down a little to keep it strictly UK and... well... enjoy.

UPDATE: Shout to Matthew Austin for the track names.

Out Da Ville = Reality
Lethal and Destruction = Invincible
57th Dynasty = Hold Strong
Scorzayzee = Picasso
57th Dynasty = Lil Bro
The Planets = Knowledge of Self
Moorish Delta 7 = Roll With
Da Essence = Now Till Infinity

UK All Day strongly recommends you download this song - then spin it on repeat. Head nod ish at its dopest.

Stylah - Pass Out (Freestyle)

After jacking Exhibit C, Stylah now reworks Tinie Tempah's Pass Out.

Stylah - Pass Out (Freestyle)

And here's the original if you haven't already heard it. Strong tune and commercially viable grime/hip hop done well, in my humble opinion. Mind you, it's not about the Fonzworth Bentley look the bro on the hook's going for.

Chima Anya - I Love Rap (Street Video)

Dr. Anya's I Love Rap off New Day, due at the end of the month.

Myke Forte - Chocolate Sauce (Instrumental)

I keep harping on about the production levels over here being on point. This only serves to reinforce that argument.

Get Myke Forte's Zodiak: Aries beat tape/download right here and visit his MySpace, if you fancy.

Jack Flash 24 - Week 7

Over Micall Parknsun's excellent M-Phazes-produced banger, All 4 Hip Hop.

Byron - Jack Of None (Out Now)

Drawing inspiration from both hip hop and grime in equal measures, Byron's Jack Of None is now available. He's got some impressive production for this debut mixtape, notably M-Phazes and Ghosttown, and this looks sure to make an impression.

Check the promotional mix below.

You can purchase the mixtape exclusively at UK Record Shop for £6 a pop.

Lowkey - Something Wonderful (Video)

Lead single off Lowkey's forthcoming sophomore set, Soundtrack To The Struggle.

Lyrically deep as ever and the Paul Weller sample works nicely, though the clearance must've cost a penny. Either way, it's going to be available on iTunes from Valentine's Day onwards, so go get that before you spoil your other half.

Bartoven - Amen Ra II

Bartoven follows up his first mixtape with another.
